Ace Attorney 5 Coming to Nintendo 3DS

UPDATE: Capcom has confirmed to IGN that Ace Attorney 5 (aka Gyakuten Saiban 5) will be coming to "the West." The publisher stated it will have more news soon.

ORIGINAL STORY: Capcom has confirmed Ace Attorney 5 is coming to the Nintendo 3DS. The next installment of the courtroom drama was announced earlier this year, but the latest issue of Famitsu, translated by Andriasang, has revealed the game's intended platform. The article also revealed that Phoenix Wright will return as this game's main protagonist, alongside a new female partner.

Few other details were provided, and there is no indication of a release date.

Kojima says he's interested in making a Metal Gear Rising sequel

The legendary figurehead of game developer/publisher Konami gave his much-anticipated address to the throngs of attendees at the Penny Arcade Expo today, and aside from melting everybody's faces off with the awesomeness of the Ground Zeroes reel, he also made some interesting comments about his future in the series.

Kojima said that he's actually not a fan of spin-offs (ala Metal Gear Rising,) but that he likes what Platinum Games is doing with the title.

"First of all, I'm not a huge fan of spin-offs," Kojima said. "But as far as Rising is concerned, if it works out well, I'd really like to work with Platinum again to make a sequel."

Quite frankly, as huge fans of both Metal Gear Solid, and the awesome-looking Revengeance, the prospect of a full-fledged sequel is incredibly exciting. Metal Gear Rising has been reportedly held back by development issues for a long time before Platinum took over. So the prospect of a game developed from the ground up by Platinum and helmed by Kojima is enticing indeed.

In slightly related news, Kojima also said that he'd love to make a new main game in the Metal Gear Solid series starring The Boss, a fan-favorite character from Metal Gear Solid 3. Which undoubtedly sent MGS fanboys into a tizzy.

Dead Island Riptide Details and Screens

Back at E3 2012, publisher Deep Silver announced Dead Island Riptide, a sequel to developer Techland's 2011 hit Dead Island. And that's pretty much all the companies said. Later, Deep Silver said the game would only cost you $50, but said nothing about the game. Nothing until today.

"Having survived the ordeals of the zombie infestation on the once beautiful island resort of Banoi, our group of survivors thought they had finally found a safe place to escape from this terrifying nightmare," read a Dead Island press release. "But they were wrong. Shortly after the battle-hardened team had landed their helicopter on a military ship, a furious storm hits and havoc quickly spreads on board. Suddenly they find themselves struggling for their lives again with all hope drowning in the rising waves."

Where do the returning survivors end up? Sounds like a new island -- or set of islands. "A monsoon has hit the once beautiful archipelago and heavy rainstorms have laid waste to large areas of the islands. The city of Henderson and jungle areas on the island of Palanai were flooded leaving boats as the only remaining way of transportation," the release said.

On top of the locations, Dead Island Riptide adds a fifth character with an "all-new and unique skillset." There are also new zombie mutations, dynamic weather conditions, co-op communication features, and "hub defense missions" where the survivors will "need to strategically place traps, fences and turrets to fend off oncoming Zombie onslaughts and to protect the humans in these sanctuaries."

Dead Island Riptide: Drowning Hope is set to come out in 2012 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Look for more news about it here on IGN.

Wii U Release Date: More Leaks Suggest Mid-November Launch

While Nintendo prepares for its Wii U Preview Event in just 2.5 weeks, more leaks continue to suggest the publisher is planning on launching the system November 18. This time the information comes from the GameStop Manager's Conference, where peripheral maker PDP reportedly revealed it plans on releasing Wii U accessories on the Sunday date.

This isn't the first time we've seen suggestions of a November 18 release date. Furthermore the weekend timing and proximity to Black Friday/Thanksgiving in the United States fits Nintendo's pattern of home console debuts for the past decade (Wii launched on November 19; GameCube on November 18).

To add a healthy bit of skepticism to the mix though, PDP's plans do not necessarily have to align with Nintendo's. Accessories frequently ship prior to console launches, and there's nothing to say that PDP might arrive after the system arrives at retailers. Until Nintendo outright reveals its plans, we won't know for sure. Fortunately we don't have long to wait.

Report: Leaked Dragon Age 3 Questionnaire

Details from an unauthenticated survey for Dragon Age 3 have appeared online. The third part of the series has yet to be announced by series publisher Electronic Arts.

The survey (summarised on NeoGaf) apparently contains a summary of the game, asking readers to highlight the parts they liked or found appealing.

It evokes a world of chaos. The empire of Orlais is riven by civil war; the Chantry is divided; the Templar order has broken away; the Mage circles have rebelled. Some unseen force is manipulating events, bringing about disorder and destruction. Out of this confusion emerges The Inquisition.

If the survey is true, it seems that players will be cast as the leader of this group. One version of the alleged survey reads: "Make your player a rogue, warrior or mage and set up your crew from up to ten (!) complex companions to lead them against those who attack you by systematically spying on, revealing and destroying them."

Other questions hint at possible titles for the third installment, including Dragon Age 3: The Breach, Dragon Age 3: Inquisition, and Dragon Age 3: Apocrypha. It also contains concept art for potential companions in the game.

Potential companions in Dragon Age 3?

We've reached out to EA for comment.

How Sony Won Gamescom Before It Even Started

Microsoft should be afraid of Sony. Before the PlayStation publisher’s pre-Gamescom press conference this week, Sony’s foreseeable software future seemed weak. The PlayStation Vita seemed only to have a handful of promising titles for the remainder of 2012 – LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, a Call of Duty game we knew next to nothing about, a Persona 4 remake, and a poorly timed Assassin’s Creed tie-in were the PlayStation brand’s best and brightest. But after displaying a strong lineup of exclusive games on both PlayStation platforms, a brilliant new business strategy, and confidence in risky game ideas, Sony’s future couldn’t look better than it does now.

Gamescom will be Sony’s show. This is bad news for Microsoft, who didn’t even bother to show up.

Sony’s Cross Buy announcement undoubtedly earned it a great deal of gamer goodwill. Buying Battle Royale, the new Ratchet & Clank, and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time on PS3 scores you a free Vita copy. This is an incredible move for Sony. These are three of its most popular and promising titles, and you can play them anywhere, any time, for one price. Cross Buy puts PlayStation fans ahead of the curve, and rewards them for purchasing PS3 games they were likely to buy anyway. It looks amazing on the back of the box, it’s something people will tell their friends about, and it makes a Vita worth owning for every single PlayStation fan. That’s just smart marketing.

“

Cross Buy puts PlayStation fans ahead of the curve

Until Dawn, Rain, and Puppeteer all represent something astounding about Sony’s initiative toward supporting innovative ideas. Following Papo & Yo, Journey, and many other clever concepts, this trio of games look unlike almost anything you’ve played. Each of them certainly has a niche appeal, but Sony’s willing to risk a limited audience if it means putting exclusive, original games on its platforms. Add in the casual mentions of Beyond: Two Souls and The Last of Us during the conference, and you’re looking at a large stack of Sony-only goods. Oh, and let’s not forget Media Molecule’s cute and creative Tear Away, either.

For the first time since I bought it, I want to play my Vita. A quirky indie game like Sound Shapes reassures me that more great stuff is on the way, and Sony really came out of the corner throwing haymakers. I want Black Ops Declassified because it looks like a true Call of Duty game. Killzone Mercenary is the Sony sequel I want most on the platform I’m aching to play.

Before I came to Gamescom, I played my Xbox more than any other platform. That changes the moment I get back to my living room. All of a sudden, the future of gaming in my life is dominated by a platform I traditionally ignored for my Xbox 360. The level of imagination and accessibility in these original, exclusive games is so much more interesting to me than another Halo game. Make no mistake: I’m thrilled about Halo 4, but it’s the one and only Xbox exclusive I plan to play this fall; the only other two exclusives I can think of in the next few months are Gears of War: Judgment and Fable: The Journey – of those, I only have faith and interest in the former.

Microsoft missed a great opportunity at Gamescom to tell the world about why it should care about Xbox 360, Xbox Live, the fall update, and how it all connects to Windows 8. More importantly, maybe, just maybe, it could have given us a game worth thinking about, investing in emotionally, or getting excited to play with on Surface, Windows Phone, Windows Live, or any other gaming platform it may have on the way. I love my Xbox 360 -- I just want as much a reason to play it as I now have for my PlayStation devices.

Gamescom belongs to Sony, as does my heart. This is a brilliant sign of things to come, and it was all done before the show had even begun.
