Resident Evil: Survivial Horror vs. Action

Resident Evil is one of the most beloved survival horror franchises in all of gaming. But ever since the release of Resident Evil 4 - and especially with the release of RE5 - the franchise has taken a decided turn away from it survival roots, becoming more of an action franchise than anything else.

Some gamers love this shift. Some hate it. But which camp is in the right? Today, IGN's retro Resident Evil enthusiast Audrey Drake (me!) and RE5 defender Samuel Claiborn duke it out via e-mail. Check out their arguments, then leave your own thoughts in the comments at the bottom of the page.

Round 1... FIGHT!

Sam's Action Argument, Round 1

From: Samuel J Claiborn

Sent: Friday, September 07, 2012 10:31 AM

To: Audrey Drake

Subject: Re: Resident Evil: Action vs. Survival Horror

Audrey, I'd like to kill the Action vs. Survival Horror argument with a well-placed shot to the head, but it keeps rearing up like a demon crab-thing out of the gaping neck hole.

I view the post-Resident Evil 4 games as fixing the flaws and primitive technology of the originals. Resident Evil had confusing, switching camera angles, an unintuitive pivoting control scheme and crummy, approximate aiming. This caused tension because it was extremely hard - and frustrating - to kill zombies. In Resident Evil 4, zombies are still hard to kill. When you are swarmed by villagers or evil monks, it still causes a lot of tension. If you get overwhelmed, it's because your aim is bad - not because you are pressing up and shooting wildly in the distant corner, but the giant snake isn't taking any damage.

Also, let's get this out of the way now: Resident Evil will never be "scary" again; You were ten years old, that's why it was scary. That's also why I had to cover my eyes with my Care Bear during the Darth Vader scenes in The Empire Strikes Back.

Audrey's Survival Horror Argument, Round 1

First of all, the snake’s name is Yawn. GEEZ. Also, the original game’s controls aren’t on trial here – though I would make the argument that, while now admittedly archaic, the gimped controls were intentionally limited. The original games wouldn’t have been frightening at all if you could move as fluidly as in Mario 64. It made the world more claustrophobic, and yes, more frightening. You really had to think on your feet and work with what you had to make it out alive in those game.

RE4 achieved a brilliant balance – maintaining the heart and soul of the RE universe (firmly residing in the SURVIVAL HORROR camp) while offering updated controls for modern audiences who couldn’t handle the tank controls. Like you. :P It supplemented the new controls by adding more zombies per area, bigger bosses and huge, unforgettable setpieces like the Village, the Castle, etc. What was memorable about RE5? Other than the hot girl and lots of desert, not much. While it was well-made, it was more of a generic action game, lacking the thrills and atmosphere so integral to the RE experience. Why ruin one of the most beloved survival horror franchises of all time by making it something it was never meant to be, just so Capcom can sell a few extra copies? If I want an action game, I’ll play Uncharted. RE4 is as far into action territory as I ever wanted to see that franchise venture. Hell, Revelations was more enjoyable than 5, because it actually felt like Resident Evil.

Also, the only thing frightening about Star Wars is how badly Lucas dropped the ball with the prequels.

Sam's Action Argument, Round 2

So here we are, arguing about Resident Evil 4 vs. Resident Evil 5, which is ridiculous, since the original hubbub over Resident Evil's departure from its roots arose with that very title. If you get in a huff about Resident Evil 5 straying too far from the Resident Evil 4 formula, imagine how fans felt when Resident Evil 4 showed up as a nearly unrecognizable sequel - it had green herbs and typewriters, but that's about it!

Heck, this phrase could have been written by a spurned Resident Evil fan in 2005: "Why ruin one of the most beloved survival horror franchises of all time by making it something it was never meant to be, just so Capcom can sell a few extra copies? If I want an action game, I’ll play Uncharted."

And that's precisely my point. The changes made in Resident Evil 4 made it an awesome action game, wholly distinct from the "survival horror" games that preceded it. And let's be serious -- "survival horror" just means "old-school adventure game on PlayStation in a haunted house."

I don't have a good argument for why Resident Evil 5 is better than Resident Evil 4, because it isn't, but I can say that the direction the series has taken since its switch to action is far more interesting than going back to its  actual "roots."

So we can agree all day on how Resident Evil 4 is great, but it ain't Resident Evil - it was the original offender.

Audrey's Survival Horror Argument, Round 2

It’s true, Sam – RE4 was indeed the genesis of the survival horror vs. action argument. But it’s tantamount to the original game compared to RE5, which didn’t really feel like Resident Evil at all. It might as well have had terrorists gunning you down instead of zombies. At least RE4 still had creepy locations (read: not bathed in sunlight) and tried to get you to jump out of your seat at least once or twice. It also had far less ammo than RE5, placing more emphasis on the “survival” element. And the heavy action sequences were usually spurred by giant creatures rather than typical action fare like car chases. Having no partner also lent to the atmosphere, which RE5 totally killed by having a hot chick feeding you herbs and tossing you ammo all the time.

In that sense, while it was certainly the first step in the franchise’s move toward being an all-out action game – I’d argue that RE4 was still a survival horror game, albeit with action elements. RE5, on the other hand, is an action game with zombies for some reason. The difference, while perhaps subtle, is that survival horror games seek to set a certain tone, an atmosphere of tension and unseen horror that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Whether or not it’s actually “scary” isn’t even really the point – it’s that tension, that adrenaline, that keeps survival horror fans coming back for more. That’s what separates it as its own genre.

And that’s why, even though it’s a well-made game, RE5 left me angry and dissatisfied. Take away the tension, (the survival horror element, in other words) and all you have is a B movie featuring enemies with severely bad skin. And the downfall of a truly classic franchise.

Is this Resident Evil, or a poster for a bad action movie?

Sam's Final Say

I consider you a friend Audrey, so you can call Resident Evil 4 a "survival horror" game just because it has less ammo, car chases and Sheva, but I am going to continue to secretly think of it as the first game in a new series of action-based Resident Evil games. Resident Evil 5 may mark the "downfall of a truly classic franchise," but Resident Evil 4 kicked the series over a cliff - a really awesome cliff where you can shoot at stuff while you fall!

Audrey's Final Say

I respect you, your mustache and your opinion, Sam - so we'll end the argument here. We seem to disagree on the oft-contended definition of the survival horror genre, but the important thing is, we both agree that RE4 kicks serious ass! As for RE5, the only thing we seem to agree on is that we disagree. While I appreciate smooth controls and solid action, I still won't waste my time on an entry in the series that is devoid of that signature atmosphere us RE fans love to fear. The series helped define a genre that RE5 forsook by taking the action elements too far - and in my book, that's a true gaming sin. Gimme atmosphere and a slower pace any day.

Who do you agree with? Did we miss any points? Leave only your most evil thoughts on the survival horror vs. action debate in the comments section below!

Piranha 3DD Scribes Talk Shop

In a recent interview with IGN, writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton discussed their unorthodox experience penning the script for last summer's horror/comedy sequel Piranha 3DD. From writing in D-list celebrities such as Carmen Electra and Snooki to searching for the perfect water park willing enough to let the crew run rampant with buckets of blood and fish guts, the process certainly wasn't an easy one for Dunstan and Melton -- although, as they put it, it's hard to complain when you've got the Hoff on your side.

IGN Movies: Obviously, this was a continuation of Alexandre Aja's first Piranha movie, which was more satiric in nature than just straight horror. What was your approach, tonally, for the sequel, and how did you go about infusing those comedic aspects into the story?

Marcus Dustan: Well, it kind of harkened back to the collaboration John Gulager, Patrick and I had in 2004 with Feast, where our first big break was blending humor, horror and the terror of an isolated community under siege. So this was an opportunity to expand upon the universe created way back in the earlier films, and it also brings some characters from the Alexandre Aja picture into this. This time, the setting of the water park was a wonderful brainstorm moment to come up with all the elements of mayhem that could destroy someone's day.

IGN: And where did that idea for the water park come from? How did that become the central location for this one?

Melton: You logically think, "Okay, where can this take place and be a little bit different than the first one?" So we eventually decided on the water park. I'm not sure exactly if it was us, Bob Weinstein or Gulager who first said it. I can't remember exactly who came up with that.

Dunstan: It was us!

Melton: It was us? Okay. In the very early conversations, we were like, "Okay, it takes place in a water park downstream, and it's the sleaziest one you've ever been to. They're trying to do this big kickoff, and they're going to have these D-list celebrity lifeguards there." We told that to Bob, and he goes, "That's great, you do that!" He gave us three notes, which were, "I want a piranha in someone's p**** to come out when they're f***ing; a piranha goes up someone's ass --" and what was the third one? It'll come back to me. But those two were very important.

IGN: You guys obviously had a ton of cameo appearances in this movie. When you were writing the script, were all of those actors already locked in for the sequel, or did you kind of have to work around that and hope for the best?

Melton: No, they weren't, and that was actually kind of tricky. We looked at the location, which was one of the first things we did, and it was like, "Okay, we're going to do it, and Gulager's going to do it. Here are the parameters and the budget, and we need to shoot pretty soon." So we all got on a plane and went down to Louisiana, initially, to look at water parks, and there are only two water parks in all of Louisiana. One is in Shreveport and the other's in Baton Rouge, and the one in Baton Rouge was fantastic -- it's one of the best in the south. We really wanted to shoot there, but it was just cost prohibitive and the ownership wasn't all that thrilled with our ideas of turning their water park red with blood. [Laughs]

Dunstan: It was actually a church organization, and they were funded with church cash. That became a "conflict of interest." The promotion of "liberty and the pursuit of happiness" was a bit undercut by vicious prehistoric fish invading people's nether regions.

Melton: It's actually kind of funny because the one in Shreveport was owned by a very religious group, and they wanted no swearing and no nudity. We were like, "Um, it's called Piranha 3-Double-Dee." But they were fine with the violence. Anyway, neither of those locations worked out, and we ended up going to North Carolina. When we were actually writing it, [David Hasselhoff] was always said to be the centerpiece, but we had a bunch of people that we were going to have in it because we had it with not one celebrity lifeguard, but six. It was this ragtag group of Dustin Diamond, Carmen Electra, Snooki -- and they all sort of die, one by one, leaving it up to the Hoff, who wasn't going to go down without a fight. Of course, the problem was... we had all these people written into the script, and when they got word that they were written in, they jacked up their prices.

Dunstan: At least mention Rick Astley.

Melton: Right, we wanted Rick Astley in there as well -- so during the heightened, chaos and mayhem, that's when he finally shows up and his song "Never Gonna Give You Up" starts playing, and the entire theater gets Rickrolled. [Laughs] Often times, though, something like that seems so relevant to people like me and Marcus -- especially two or three years ago when we were doing this -- then you try to mention it to the studio, and they're like, "Who?" And you're like, "You know, Rick Astley!" And they're like, "Why is that funny?" It's like, "Well, but, you know, 'cause, like, we play this song and it's Rick Astley!" [Laughs] We're like, "What about Keyboard Cat? You know? No?" So unfortunately, we didn't get Rick Astley, which would have been amazing. By the time you get into production, things have sort of been weened down to the essentials -- the essentials being the Hoff -- and he was game to be completely ridiculous and make fun of himself and all that.

Piranha 3DD is now available for purchase on Blu-ray and DVD. Additionally, Dunstan and Melton's next film The Collection hits theaters on November 30.

FrightFest the 13th - Five of the Best

So FrightFest happened at the weekend, with the good, the bad and the ugly of the horror film industry descending on the Empire Cinema in London’s Leicester Square to shock and scare thousands of gore-hounds.

The weekend was a resounding success, but if you couldn’t make it down, the following are five of the best flicks that played (alongside the brilliant Sinister, which we previously reviewed here).

Sleep Tight

My favourite film of the festival, Sleep Tight is less an out-and-out horror and more a dark, psychological thriller in the tradition of Hitchcock’s very best. Luis Tosar delivers a grandstanding performance as Cesar, a quiet doorman working at an upscale Barcelona apartment. But below that unassuming surface, Cesar is something of a monster, creeping into his most beautiful tenant’s room at night and doing… well you’ll just have to watch the movie to find out, but rest assured it’s suitably sick and twisted.

V/H/S

Horror anthologies tend to be a mixed bag, and V/H/S is no different, though when it’s scary, it’s bloody terrifying. The wrap-around story finds a group of unpleasant pranksters breaking into a supposedly deserted house to retrieve a VHS tape, and while there they find footage that makes up the rest of the movie. The likes of Adam Wingard, Ti West and Joe Swanberg direct, and the film features the first chiller to tell its story purely through Skype. The undoubted highlight is a very novel twist on the devil worshipping sub-genre.

Berbarian Sound Studio

I’m not even going to pretend I understood this one, though while the vague plotting is frustrating, the bizarre sound and imagery stays with you long after the credits have rolled. Hunger Games star Toby Jones plays Gilderoy, a shy and retiring sound engineer invited to Italy to work on horror flick The Equestrian Vortex. But things turn strange as soon as he arrives at the titular sound studio, with life imitating art as the horror bleeds from the screen and into his life. As Gilderoy endeavours to retain his sanity, the film too starts to lose the plot, but it all looks beautiful, and as an homage to Italian Giallo, it's spot on.

Grabbers

So three serious choices, but what about something a little more light-hearted? Cockney’s vs. Zombies went down well with the FrightFest crowd, but for me Irish effort Grabbers narrowly edged the East End pensioners out. Playing like a cross between Tremors and Whisky Galore, the film stars Richard Coyle as a disillusioned Garda with a drink problem who is lazily seeing out his years in a sleepy coastal town. But when an alien invasion hits, Coyle’s character is forced to step up to the plate, no-more-so than when a scientist discovers that the aliens are allergic to humans with a high blood alcohol level. As ridiculous as it is entertaining, Grabbers is perfect midnight movie fare.

American Mary

Jen and Sylvia Soska – the directors of Dead Hooker in a Trunk – return with what may have been the most talked-about film at the festival. Ginger Snaps star Katherine Isabelle plays Mary Mason, a medical student who enters the shady underground world of body modification in search of a quick buck, and soon finds it taking a terrible toll on her own psyche. Brutal, gripping and genuinely horrifying, American Mary is the kind of film that FrightFest was created for, and should be sought out at the earliest opportunity.

I am Alive PC release announced by Ubisoft

Ubisoft announced today in a press release that their survival horror title I am Alive will be expanding to PC later this year. The PC release will also introduce two new modes to the experience: Easy Mode and Replay Mode.

The former, as you might have guessed, aims to make the experience a bit more pleasant, allowing the player infinite retries and a smoother introduction to the experience. While Replay Mode allows players to replay levels to seek out new secrets and hidden items.

Originally released on Xbox Live Arcade earlier this year in March and introduced players to a very different kind of survival horror than the Resident Evil-esque fare the industry grew up on. Though occasionally frustrating and even dull, we found it to be a worthwhile experiencethanks mostly to how unique and unforgiving and realistic it is.

The announcement comes just a day after Ubisoft announced that their piracy rate on PC is close to 95%. Apparently, that astounding rate still isn't harming their ability to do business on the platform.

Eli Roth's Celebrates Thanksgiving

Eli Roth has been talking up the prospect of his proposed horror film Thanksgiving.

The Hostel helmer shot a fake trailer for the non-existent movie as part of the Grindhouse feature, but since then has been making noises about making it for real.

And while speaking to Behind the Thrills about his Las Vegas attraction Goretorium, Roth revealed that the project is one step closer to becoming a reality.

And to make it that much more complicated, he’s working with the writers of another fake trailer-turned-movie.

“It’s gonna happen,” he explained. “I’m working with the Clown writers on it… Jeff Rundell, my co-writer, and I have a very extensive treatment. We finally cracked the story and figured out how to make it really, really scary.”

“The Clown writers wrote one of the best scripts I’ve ever read, and we’re like ‘before Jon [Watts] shoots Clown, he’s got a window.’ And Chris Ford, whose movie Robot and Frank just opened… Chris and John are going to write the screenplay with me and my writing partner Jeff, so we’ll have a draft soon.”

More news on this one as and when it happens, but before then check out both fake trailers below or read our feature on other fake movies we want to see happen.

Chris Tilly is the Entertainment Editor for IGN really, really wants to see a Thanksgiving movie. His idle chit-chat can be found on both Twitter and MyIGN.

Horror Prequels We Hope Hollywood Never Makes

Sick of prequels to classic movies that don't need prequels? So are we! Inspired by the recent rumor of a prequel to The Shining, we present to you five horror prequels we hope Hollywood, never, ever makes.

Kid Fly

Starring: Zachary Gordon, Rick Moranis, Martha Plimpton, Robert De Niro, Selena Gomez

The Pitch: Wuh oh! Lil' Seth Brundle’s gotten into his father’s teleporter again, and this time, he’s not alone! That’s right, we’re turning the gene-splicing concept upside down with this fun 're-imagining' of 1980's The Fly! This delightful family film follows 10-year-old Seth (Gordon)  as he hilariously attempts to hide his body horror from his parents (Moranis and Plimpton) while trying to stop evil scientist Franken Snadien Lankanotvitch (De Niro) from stealing his father’s blueprints! And will he be able to impress his cute neighbor Rachel (Gomez) when bits of his face keeps falling off, or will she finally realize it’s what’s on the inside that counts?

Jaws: The Beginning

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Shia LaBeouf, LL Cool J

The Pitch: This gripping historical epic centers on a young Quint (Wahlberg) as a naval officer on the U.S.S Indianapolis, famously hit by a Japanese torpedo in 1945. Director Darren Araonofsky (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan) boldly examines that chilling night, casting an unflinching eye on the crumbling humanity of Quint and his men as they try to survive against a host of great white sharks. Never one to shy away from gritty topics, Aranofsky has filmed 95% of Jaws: The Beginning in the water, where 588 officers get painstakingly picked off one by one in an array of gruesome scenarios across four hours. But what is real and what is nightmarish delusion? You’ll soon find yourself questioning your own sense of reality while watching the movie critics are already calling “Aranofsky’s most ambitious work yet” and “the bleakest film you’ll see all century.”

Damien's Big Day Out (aka The Omen: Lost in London)

Starring: Sylvester Stallone (voice), Ricky Gervais (voice), Amanda Seyfried, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet

The Pitch: From the producers of Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2 comes this cheeky comedy that puts the ANTIC back in ANTIChrist! During a day trip with one of his nannies (Seyfried), poor little Damien gets ‘accidentally' left at the foot of Big Ben, and must find his way home using only his adorable baby wits and the terrifying ability to telepathically persuade everyone around him to kill themselves! Featuring the voice talent of Sylvester Stallone as little Damien and Ricky Gervais as his cockney canine companion Bobby-three-paws, you’ll split your sides laughing as the spawn of Satan tries to find his way home to begin his tyrannical reign over the human race.

Misery: The Book Club Years

Starring: Rebel Wilson, Anne Hathaway, Kristen Wiig, Diane Keaton, Kirsten Dunst

The Pitch 25-year-old Annie Wilkes (Wilson) is a hopeless romantic and a hopeless shut-in - in fact, her closest relationship is with her pet pig! But one day she sees a members-wanted ad in the local newspaper for a book club...that will change her life forever! Featuring an all-star cast including Anne Hathaway as the bossy leader, Kristen Wiig as the hilarious hippy, Diane Keaton as the older lady and Kirsten Dunst as the slut, Misery: The Book Club Years is a gentle chick-lit-flick that reminds us all to treasure the small things in life: a strong cup of tea, some good friends, and a great Paul Sheldon novel!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Presents: Frat Attack!

Starring: Cory Monteith, Noel Fielding, Kieran Culkin, Michael Cera, Emma Stone

The Pitch: Set during the swingin’ sixties, TTCMP: Frat Attack takes place at the fictional South Central Austin College where the Kappa Chi Delta chapter reigns supreme. But the Fraternity’s President Todd (Cory Monteith ) has no idea what he’s letting himself in for when he recruits the Sawyer brothers into the fold! From playing unnerving ‘surprise cutting’ tricks on rival fraternities to straight up, unapologetic homicide, Robert ‘Chop Top’ Sawyer (Brit comedy thesp Fielding), Nubbins ‘The Hitchhiker’ Sawyer (Culkin) and ‘Leatherface’ (Cera) grow quickly out of control. How will Todd stop them from dismembering everyone at their annual kegger? And will Leatherface ever learn how to talk to smart, pretty sophomore Amy (Stone) without the uncontrollable urge to gut her from head to foot? Modeled after classic frat-house comedies like Animal House and Revenge of the Nerds, TTCMP: Frat Attack is bound to make you laugh and drop your jaw in equal measure.

Resident Evil's Weirdest Enemies

Through the years, the Resident Evil franchise has offered its fair share of epic, zombie-fueled adventures. From the exceptional first entries that focused on survival horror to the more action-oriented modern releases like Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 - the franchise stands as a shining example of how to do zombie-gore right.

The funny thing is, the more memorable Resident Evil enemies usually aren't traditional zombies. In fact, some of them are downright weird. Elephants, giant snakes, plants, dudes in armor - when you really think about it, some of the creatures we've taken down in the name of survival have been pretty damn freaky.

In honor of the forthcoming release of Resident Evil 6, we've compiled the absolute weirdest enemies the RE franchise has to offer. These are in no particular order - although I think we can all agree the zombie elephant would have been number one. Take a look, then let us know your own favorites in the comments afterward.

On to the weirdness!

As if Great White sharks weren't frightening enough, the bastards at Umbrella had to go and make B.O.W.s out of them. Bop it on the nose! I hear they hate that...

Hunter

Good ole hunters - giant, reptilian B.O.W.s with giant claws and mean tempers. He looks like he's yelling, "WHY ARE MY HANDS SO BIG!?"

Eliminator

ZOMBIE MONKEY! How can you not like that? Still - it's freaking weird.

Plague Crawler

Ew. Freaking... EW! Giant bugs are not only nasty, and unsanitary, they're also just not normal. Bugs should stay bug-sized.

Stalker

You only thought Aslan was on your side.

Web Spinner

This one's kind of just a spider. But it's HUGE! That's weird.

G

Not surprisingly, G is a product of the G-Virus. It's born from a human host - which is not only strange, but also endlessly unsettling. Also, if you looked at that and didn't think "zombie E.T." - shame on you.

Duvalia

This dude makes those Plagas that burst from your neck seem downright friendly. Disgusting.

Titan

It's a zombie elephant. What more do you need to know?

Alligator

A zombie alligator is different from a regular alligator because... it... well... it's bigger. That's about it.

Queen Leech

A former pet of Dr. Marcus, the Queen Leech is a product of Progenitor virus experimentation. That's what you get for keeping a leech as a pet. Freak. It also looks strangely like Bongo Bongo from The Legends of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Except without the bongo...

Ivy

A lot of the other enemies on this list are funny, but still frightening. This one is a plant with legs - which is just dumb.

Cephalo

It's like some sick game of jack-in-the-box, but where Jack is a disgusting Plaga that pops out of a zombie's severed neck rather than a box. Thanks for stomping all over our innocence, RE. At least he's wearing sandals, though. You can't be afraid of a man in sandals.

William Birkin

Man, and you thought your family was messed up. Worst. Father. EVER.

Armadura

A suit of armor infected by a Plaga. WTF?! So many questions... so few answers.

Big Man Majini

This one is basically just a big dude. The fact that he doesn't look at all like a zombie is the weird part. Um, ya. Moving on.

Licker

Its body is rotting, but its brain is perfectly intact? Its tongue is longer than its neck? This classic villain makes no sense. Watch out though! It'll lick you to death! Nooooo!

Giant Moth

Look at his mouth - this guy was clearly infected by the Zoidberg virus. Seriously though, what were they hoping to accomplish with this one? When is Umbrella going to learn that no one benefits from giant, infected bugs?

Bitores Mendez

That... has got to hurt.

Ghiozzo

That ginormous fish-monster could never fit in that tiny pool. Weird!

Lurker

Okay, this guy is just awesome. Expect to trip the **** out if you lick this frog's back. And maybe die. And maybe turn into a zombie. Proceed with caution.

Ndesu

He was actually only unshaven before the mutation happened and now look - a full beard! Also, he wears a dead dude for a belt buckle.

Executioner

At what point did he decide it was a good idea to stick nails in his head and torso? Dumbass.

Cerberus

The RE developers sure do love their zombie dogs. He looks more like a "Spot" to me though. I mean, come on. Silly RE developers. Cerberous has three heads.

Yawn

The most badass of badass snakes, Yawn is an awesome - though admittedly weird - B.O.W. that likes to hang around creepy mansions. That expression though - not frightening. He's either yawning, as his name implies, or the happiest puppy ever. I wish I felt half that good right now.
